Bugs & Stuff

Please use this page to report any bugs or general issues that you come across :3 I'll try to fix them as soon as possible if I can!

For help with opening the game on Mac, please take a look at this post here :3

There are a few things I'm already aware of, such as one or two buttons being impossible to click on if you're playing in anything other than 16:9 or 16:10 because they're one the parts of the screen that are cut off :( The game was designed to be played in 16:9 1920x1080. In 16:10, it should be relative okay, but some scenes may have the edges missing from CGs along with some of the animated subtitles >.<

I am just at the beginning of the game and using Windows 11 PC. The bug is a scaling issue: Clickable objects aren't scaled to the custom backgound resolution but stay at 1920x1080.

That means, if you have a bright monitor and use a wide resolution like 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 (maybe it applies for the smaller ones too, I dont' know), interactive objects wouldn't 'fit' in the background.

Maybe, you can find a solution for that...

Shame on m, I didn't read the description all. You know about that and mentioned it already. My apologise.

Besides: Very good work - the game is great, and thanks to your casting and the cast themself with fantastic voice acting. Thanks for german mentions, I come from Germany myself, so I appreciated it in a special way. Some words lacks of correct pronunciation a bit, but very well done yet. Very creepy plot I have to say, but exactly what the game promised.

Thanks!

No worries at all :3 I know there’s a lot of info on the game pages in general, so it’s a lot to take in when I’m so rambly with all my descriptions, haha.

I’m glad you were still able to play it at least! It is frustrating though being unable to fix technical issues like what you mentioned because it sucks to think that I’ve sat there for hours putting so much work into something only for it to not function the same way for everyone because of my lack of knowledge about the more technical side of things >.<

I tried so hard to find solutions both in the Naninovel guides & Unity discussion threads in general, but cannot for the life of me figure out what I’m supposed to do to make scalable UIs actually do what they’re supposed to do and scale, haha. Since the start of 2023, everything I released that year I decided to lock to just 1920x1080 16:9 support. I think I will continue to do that, but I don’t know if that might end up being irritating for some people >.< I feel like it’s still gotta be better than janky UI though.

Part of why I use Naninovel to make VNs is because I'm not a techy person, so I kind of  rely on things working the way they say they should >.< If I had more knowledge and testing capacity, I might actually be able to support other resolutions and aspect ratios properly, but it's not something I'm likely to be able to be capable of anytime soon, sadly :(

And thank you for your kind words :3 Yeah, I desperately wanted to include some German in there since I was trying to learn German at the time, but I’m only super basic beginner level, so I needed a lot of help from the internet, which can’t always be trusted with getting spelling and grammar 100% correct >.< haha.

I felt so bad asking the cast to try and speak German when, as far as I was aware, none of them had before x3 I tried to use a mixture of online videos, Google Translate’s voice, and my own terrible attempts at pronouncing things in recordings to try and get it done, but yeah, it was hard, haha.

I’ve sadly since paused learning German because I couldn’t afford to pay for further levels on the app I was using and just generally never have enough time to do everything I’d like to T_T I really want to continue learning at some point though! And also start Polish because my family have wider roots in both Germany and Poland :3 Though, one of my Polish relatives straight up told me not to bother with Polish xD She’s an English teacher, and she said Polish is just unnecessarily difficult, haha.

Thanks so much for sticking with the game anyhow :3 I really appreciate you checking it out and taking the time to comment!

HII!

So the game itself is! great job as always but it every time Morgen gets into that guy's room and he says you weren't supposed to see this, there is a butterfly loading screen. But at that exact time the game always crushes.

I'm glad you like it :3 But damn, that sucks and it's really weird because I tested it on both the PC I made it on + on our family potato laptop and never got any crashes at all while trying all choices and paths in the game >.< and some of the other people on the team tested it too, and as far as know, they didn't encounter any crashes either, so I don't know what would be causing it to crash there at that point for you :(

Were you playing the windows or the mac version?

The load screen is there because it's loading the next scene at that point. On my PC, it only takes a second to load, but on the potato laptop, it takes around 15-20 seconds to complete the load, so it does look a little bit like the game has frozen even though it's just being slow on the potato, haha. Is it possible that maybe it's just taking a really long time to load on your computer as well?

Also, if you avoid going to the room with the jars by either going right instead of left, or if you choose the option to ignore the scream and explore elsewhere, when you get to the next loading screen, does that successfully load to the next scene for you, or does it also crash there too? Because it's the same loading screen and loading the same scene, just different ways of getting there, but you'll reach that same load whichever choices you pick, so it would be even more weird if it only crashes in the jars room for you >.<

Sorry I can't be of more help :( Since I'm unlikely to be able to replicate it on my end, I'd probably have to send you a dev build and get your error logs to find out what's going on with it on your computer.

Thank you for playing and for letting me know though :3

I was playing on the windows version. Sometimes it took too long to load, sometimes it freezed up and crashed, or it just crushed at that time lol. I'll try to play it today too.

Woah. There was no more crush. Guess it was about my computer and not the game. Anyways thanks for reaching out!

Hmm, I guess it must be something your computer doesn't like about the game if it also sometimes took a long time loading as well as freezing and crashing >.<

It's still strange though because, like I said, I also tested on our family laptop which is a pretty old potato laptop, and it was fine on there. I expected it not to be able to run since it can't really run most games x3 I remember trying to load Hakuoki on it and it just freezes and crashes xD So I was surprised that my games play on it at all.

I'm not a very tech savvy person, sadly >.< My best guess would be maybe your computer has low temporary memory or something, so it couldn't handle loading up the data for the next scene >.< But I don't know really :(

I don't mind sending you a dev build still though if you want me to try and get to the bottom of it :3 I've never done it before, but apparently, if I send you a dev build, when it crashes, your computer should spit out some logs with details about what caused the crash. I probably wouldn't be able to understand them myself without help, but I could post them in the naninovel support section.

Just drop me an email (melancholicmarionette@gmail.com) if you do want me to send a dev build to you, and I'll just reply to the mail with a link to it in a Google drive folder or something :3

Hopefully, it just won't crash anymore for you though if it stopped and you got past that bit x3
