OST Release :3

Sooo, I've been a bit slow to get this one out because I'm struggling to deal with life as usual >.<
A lot happened in February, but I've rambled about that over here if you want to read about it x3

This soundtrack is pretty important to me since making it helped me to get through a really rough time last year :3
If you end up listening to it, I hope it brings you some kind of peace like it did for me.

As always, now that it's out on YouTube, supporters on Patreon & Ko-Fi can download the whole OST in high-quality wav files from the supporter's page, or you can send a minimum $5 donation from the game page that will also make the files available for download :3

Anyways, here is one of the videos I made for the OST on YouTube!

Bonus moan about YouTube x3

I've got a gripe with YouTube though because there is a copyright claim on my ending track with vocals >.> It's not like it's super serious or anything since I can't monetise my stuff on YouTube, but it's still irritating because I haven't done anything wrong and can't get it removed :(

Basically, for the track that I named 'Don't Say Die' I used vocals from a sample pack. It's a pack that I purchased in a sale and own, so I have every right to use it within the terms of the license agreement. The license states that the site I got the sample pack from grants the license for it to be used non-exclusively by anyone who purchases the pack for commercial or personal use provided that you use it within a song rather than independently, and provided you don't just 100% copy the demo track it's used in.

Despite that, someone else who has a music track featuring the same vocals on YouTube has a copyright claim specifically on the vocal sample via some 3rd party distributor site >.< so my track was flagged as soon as I uploaded it. Whoever they are, they don't have the right to exclusively claim ownership of the vocal sample in question because the actual copyright belongs to the site I purchased it from.

There's nothing I can do about it though. I filled out the dispute form with all the info on why I'm within my rights to use the same vocal sample, a link to where it was purchased, and included my license agreement, but it wasn't good enough. The dispute was declined by the person/people who made the claim >.>

It's not the first time this has happened, but in the few times it has, when I explain everything in a dispute, the people behind the claim have always agreed to remove it. This is the first time someone has stonewalled my dispute without reason.

YouTube says I can object to the decision, but that it will just be reviewed again by the same people, and if they arrive at the same decision, I'll get a copyright strike and my video will be removed :(

I don't really see any point in objecting to the decision if that's what will happen because the people will obviously decline it again. I can't possibly provide any more info. I already fully explained to them the situation, and it seems as though they just don't care.

I tried to contact YouTube to see if I could speak to someone else about it since it's a pretty clear-cut case,

- provided these other people purchased the sample, we both have every right to use it in a track and not hit each other with copyright crap -

But, unsurprisingly, YouTube has been less than helpful. They say that their staff don't deal with copyright claims, and that it's up to me to try and sort it out with the claim owner via the dispute system. Which is ridiculous because that means anyone with a copyright claim can just keep declining to acknowledge disputes until they get a person's video removed.

In the end, I just gave up! I guess that's one of the pitfalls of using vocal samples that other people have access to. Still, I wish other people wouldn't be dicks about it >.>

It's also one of the main reasons I stopped using samples from Looperman, as much as I love the site. Because folks upload samples on there for anyone to use, and then assholes try to claim copyright on them within their songs even though the original creators expressly state they want everyone to be able to use them.

I guess all I can do is try to rely less on samples when making future tracks, or make sure to alter the crap out of as much as I can. That's not so easy to do when it comes to vocals though >.<
