A downloadable game

Hey everyone, welcome to the page for my free visual novel, Solipsism Reigns.  This page is for the BxG version. If you're looking for the already released otome/GxB version, you can find it here: https://melancholy-marionette.itch.io/solipsism-reigns

In the game you take control of a nameable protagonist and must travel through many different worlds with your yandere spirit companion, Kuro.

Solipsism Reigns is fully voiced in English (aside from the protagonist) and is best played with headphones due to certain scenes containing 3D audio aspects. It contains roughly 175000 words. Estimated playtime when viewing all content and listening to all voice lines is around 22 hours.

You can romance Kuro but beware, she has yandere tendencies. She's perfectly capable of being kind and loving, but her jealousy can be a serious problem... Once that switch is flipped she becomes murderously possessive. Despite being a dark and twisted one, this is still a love story. Please take a look at the screenshots to view a brief description of the storyline for each route.

There are many bad endings but they don't mean game over, in fact, the more endings you view, the more of the truth you will uncover!

The game does not contain 18-rated material or sexual content, but it will include graphic descriptions of violence and some scenes of non-consensual kissing alongside some violent CGs so please don't play this if that sort of thing upsets you as the last thing I want to do is hurt anyone.

There are multiple choices in each of the routes and different endings to the game, but it's designed to be fairly easy to play without the need for a complicated walkthrough.

The project is currently only being worked on extremely casually. Please don't expect updates any time soon.

If you wanna drop me a message about the game, feel free to post a comment, or send me an email: solipsismreigns@gmail.com

Is this still in development? I've been checking back on this every once in a while for almost a year, just want to know if it's something I should still keep an eye on.

In a sense it is, but it’s been on hold for a while now and is the lowest priority of all my current projects >.< I think I marked it as on hold on the itch page, but I don’t know whether that actually shows up somehow or not.

I’ll be coming back to it at some point, but I’ve just got a lot of other stuff I need to finish first, and with this one being so long and needing to remake the entire thing from scratch, it’s not something I can really dip into and make progress on without dedicating a hell of a lot of time to it, sadly.

I’m glad you’re interested in it :3 But yeah, it won’t be ready any time soon. Definitely not within the next year cos I can’t imagine I’ll get much chance to work on it at all as I’ll be trying to finish stuff like Bitter/Sweet and CiQ first, probably also DD before I get to this one >.< So I can only apologise for that.

That's a shame, but I'll still check it out when the game is finished. I love yandere games but most of them are just horror games, so I've been really looking forward to this one. I'm just glad to hear that you at least plan to finish it, some other games in this genre that I've been waiting on I'm like 90% sure were abandoned entirely.

Sorry my reply is so slow >.< I got completely overwhelmed with life in general and kinda ended up not really functioning for most of December.

Yeah, tbh, it was because I was such a huge yandere fan that I got into making VNs in the first place. I really love the character trope, but it annoyed me that it was often used for pure horror, and people kinda forgot about the actual love part, haha. So I just wanted to make a story that was a genuine love story (while still having horror and such along the way x3)

Too many yandere characters are more just like psychos than actual yanderes because the 'love' side of things gets forgotten. I pretty much made it my mission to write as many different yandere characters as I can where the love is genuine, haha.

As a result, every game I've made (besides The Graveyard Shift) has had a yandere character of some kind in it, haha. Even platonic yanderes in a couple of em (Limbo Line & Tunnel Vision.)

Yeeeah, sadly, a lot of projects get abandoned for a whole bunch of different reasons :( I hope to never fully abandon any of my projects, but I am guilty of having a handful that I've started and still not finished! There's this one and the remake of the otome version that I'd like to do. I've got a hell of a lot of work left to do on Darling Duality. I've got a script for a full game (similar length to Solipsism Reigns) that I finished over 2 years ago and haven't managed to make into a full game yet (Clarity in Qualia), and I also still need to finish blue Blythe's route in Bitter/Sweet >.< All of that is gonna take me a looooong time, haha. I'll get there eventually (unless I die first or something I guess x3)

A lot of people just end up being too busy with other responsibilities though :( I know a couple of devs who had to quit their projects cos they just didn't have time to work on em anymore wit their actual day jobs becoming too demanding and no way of making enough money to survive on dev stuff alone.

And I backed a project's Kickstarter years ago that never got made because the small team behind it were friends who wound up breaking up for whatever reason :( So the game remains unfinished to this day and I have no idea what happened to the funding they raised.

With me, it's usually my mental health that stops me from making good chunks of progress on long-term projects. It's easier to work on short game jam stuff because it's easier to motivate myself when I know I only have to work like crazy for a month to meet a deadline. It's not healthy, but it gets stuff done faster x3 Outside of jams, I work more like a snail, haha. I get stuff done every day, but it never looks like much, so it's like invisible progress, haha.

Hope you get to have happy holidays! :3

can I upload your game on YouTube

Sorry my reply is quite slow, I’ve been away from my PC lately, so I only just saw your comment >.<

You’re welcome to upload a playthrough on YouTube if you want to :3 If you do end up doing it, I’d really appreciate it if you could link back to the game page in case anyone who watches might want to come and check it out for themselves. And feel free to link the video in a comment here as well if you like! It’s probably quite a long one though if you plan to play the whole thing x3

I hope you end up having fun if you do decide to play through it :3

To be honest I cannot wait for release.

Take your time masterpiece needs time after all!

(+1)

If I’m being completely honest, it could be a heck of a long time still before I actually get anywhere with this T_T It’s still something I want to do, and there are elements of it here and there that are actually finished, like some of fem Kuro’s voice acting and a fair number of CGs, but when it comes to the actual coding part and putting it all together, I’ve basically gotten nowhere >.<

I absolutely hope to get it done someday! But I’ve gotten myself into a bit of a mess where I now have a few different long-term projects on the go + an addiction to certain game jams x3 So it’s just difficult to actually find the time to work on everything that I want to. I really appreciate your interest and patience though :3

(1 edit) (+1)

Glad to hear that its gonna be finished one day, patience is a virtue after all.

To be honest its fine, your other works are pretty cool too so its doesnt bother me too much becouse I can enjoy something else in meantime.

Also I can fully understand you with having unfished projects and jumping to others :3

Have a great time creating games for gamejams imma wait for your new creations!

Well, hopefully, you do end up enjoying some of my other stuff :3

Hehe, yeah, I’ve kinda made a rule for myself that I won’t be starting any more long-term projects until I finish the ones I have on the go at the moment! Game jam stuff is excluded from that since it’s usually a case of making a one-shot thing from scratch in a month. But yeah, gonna do my best to make everything I make in jams from now on self-contained too, haha.

Speaking of jams, I’m hoping I can make and finish something in time to submit to O2A2 which starts tomorrow :3 It’s one I’ve wanted to do for years, but because it’s such a short jam, I’ve always missed it in the past >.< With any luck, that will change this year!

Thanks for your support ^-^

why is this still on here if you don't work on it

(+1)

Because it is still being worked on, just extremely slowly x3

(+3)

Patiently waiting ^-^ take your time hihi

(-1)

yuri version?

(+2)

There was originally gonna be a gxb, bxg, bxb, and gxg version of this, but it wound up being far too much work for me to be able to do it >.< The bxg version is still sort of in development but on hold, and I hope to remake the gxb otome version someday since I use a completely different engine now, but I just don't have the time to make any other versions, sadly :( If it were a shorter game, I absolutely would, but it's just too long >.<

tyt

Are the stories different or is it not possible to just have all the sprites for male/female characters in one game so we can pick both genders?
I don't know about game design so sorry if that's a silly question. But I'd like to play as both the same gender, but as the male version of Kuro looks femme I don't mind them both looking girly. lol

I can't seem to be able to download it; itch.io just gives me an error whenever I try to. https://imgur.com/a/tJdv1Vh

This version of the game is sadly not yet released, so there shouldn't be anything to download on this page. The only version of the game that is released is the otome/GxB version, which was the first game I ever made. You can find that one here: https://melancholy-marionette.itch.io/solipsism-reigns

But yeah, this version isn't even close to release because I don't have time to work on it alongside my other projects since this is such a big project >.< It would take me a couple of years to finish this version even if I wasn't working on anything else, unfortunately.

Saw your Darling Duality on Youtube and decided to buy all BxG versions of your games to support you.Looking forward to games/fics like this that highlight the yandere genre! Yanderes can always stave off my own lonliness. But more BxG please. When will we expect SR:BxG to come out?

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm super sorry for my slow reply >.< Like I just said with the comment below, I think I just lost your comment because of loading my itch notifications accidentally when I wasn't actually able to look at them, and then itch doesn't allow me to go back and see old notifications, so I only just saw your comment :(

Anyways, I really appreciate the support! Thank you so much ^-^

Yanderes are my favourite, so all of my games will feature one, or at the very least, a character who is possessive in some capacity even if it's not all that romantic x3

I wouldn't like to put much of an expected release date on the BxG version of SR because it's so far from completion that it could be a couple of years even. My main project right now is Darling Duality, so you can expect more content for Castor & Castoria, alongside more characters on the Darling Duality roster (who will all be varying degrees of yandere :3) before BxG SR is completed and released.

(1 edit) (+1)

Its hard to find good Yandere games that I haven't already played :O

Really looking forward to playing every route and getting the bad ending :D

Estimating play time according to the GxB/Otome version...

Very Short : 2 hours

Medium : 3 hours

Long : 4 hours

Very Long : 6 hours

Add all the routes together and you have 22 hours :)

Sorry for my slow reply >.< I think I accidentally opened my itch notifications page while I was at a Halloween theme park event the other week when I was trying to check queue times, and then itch only shows like 24 hours of notifications, so I didn't see your comment until now >.<

I'm glad you're looking forward to it :3 I can only apologise that development is going to be very slow because it's a side project, with Darling Duality taking priority at the moment. And it took me a few years to make the otome version, haha. Even though I don't have to 100% rewrite the story, I do have to build the game from scratch again.

I guess those times sort of work out, but maybe not for the very short cos the very short one is super short, haha. I would say probably no more than an hour. It all depends on whether the player is listing to the voice lines play out fully as well :3

Bad endings are the best, haha.

Thanks or your interest in the game :3

Im glad its not being ignored even tho its just a side project for now I'll gladly wait for it, if you got some suggestions to some Yandere VN I'll see, im starved for some Yandere VN's that I havent already seen xd

Looking forward to the continuation of Darling Duality!

(+1)

This game looks like it will be great. Looking forward to its development :)

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm glad you think so :3 I did start making it in one engine, but once I started using a different engine that I realised is much better, it would be silly to continue trying to make the game in the old engine. Sadly, that means starting all over again >.< On the bright side, I have teamed up with an amazing artist who is redesigning the sprites and creating CGs for this version of the game :D

Damn, just looking through the description and the routes I can clearly see that a lot of effort and love went into this game. Finally another good yan-game, I can't wait to try it out!

(+1)

I'm glad you think it looks interesting :3 I do have a pretty huge problem with this version though >.< I don't have any CGs for it. My friend created a whole bunch of CGs for the GxB version, but I don't want to take up any more of their time asking for art for this version when they have projects of their own to work on. I don't know if I can actually release this without CGs though :( Would anyone play a VN without CGs? I dunno, haha.

I do still have another few months worth of work to do on it myself like finishing replacing sprites, text, and new voice acting for fem Kuro, oh and testing too of course! It's just I'm stuck on the CG art front, haha. I have pretty much no money so I can't afford to hire an artist, which means this version of the game will probably end up on hold until I can figure something out >.<

Thanks for taking the time to comment + stay safe! :3

I mean, there are a lot of successful and great VNs that don't have any CGs whatsoever. The most famous examples would probably be Higurashi and Umineko, both of them got very famous and are highly praised even though they do not have a single CG (Sure, they have some in the later versions, but they were already famous by then). So yeah, as long as the writing is great, I don't think you have to worry about the lack of CGs too much. Maybe once this version goes around an artist might volunteer to finish the CGs?

Eitherway, good luck with the development of the game. I am sure you will be able to deliver something great. :)

(+1)

Oh wow, I honestly had no idea that those titles didn't originally have CGs :o That's an eye opener! For some reason, I just presumed that it was pretty much a requirement >.< I guess because all the VNs I've read have had a CG gallery, haha. It's really great to know that it's not necessarily considered essential though :3 I was kinda worried that I would never be able to release the BxG version due to lacking CGs, but you've given me hope!

It sure would be awesome if it was well received enough that an artist wanted to volunteer to draw CGs sometime in the future :3 Though, as always, I have very little confidence in anything I do in life xD I'll just be happy if even one person gets some enjoyment from it anyway! I'm already overjoyed at the lovely comments about the GxB version.

With any luck, I'll manage to get this version released by Christmas! It's hard to make plans and set proper goals for progress at the moment with the pandemic going on >.< but I'll get there in the end anyhow. I was thinking I'd have to put the project on hold indefinitely, but you've helped me think differently, so thank you  for that + the support :3

Well whether you find an artist for the CGs or not, I am definitely interested in playing this whenever it's finished, with or without CGs.
That's just my opinion though.

Thank you so much for the comment + interest/support :3 You guys have really opened my eyes. I can't believe I just assumed CGs were necessary >.< I should have made a poll or something I guess rather than just making assumptions, haha.

As I said in my above reply, I was thinking I may have to put this version of the project on hold indefinitely due to the lack of CGs, but you guys have shown me that I don't need to! I guess I'll just keep working on it and release it either way :3 It's a relief, cos I sure as hell didn't want the voice acting for female Kuro to go to waste since it's pretty awesome!
