The story seems pretty good, and the art is very good.

But there is exactly ONE choice in the whole game.... and it's not a real choice, just a choice between characters.

So for a novel, it's a good story.

For a game it kinda fail to be a game. At all.

Cheers for checking this one out! :3

I totally get what you’re saying about it not really being a game, but that’s kind of a debate that’s been raging for years when it comes to certain types of visual novels x3

I dunno if you’ve ever played any or heard of them, but there is a type of VN called kinetic visual novels. They’re still technically games since devs coded and created them, but they have no choices whatsoever, literally none, and so no branching paths either.

They tend not to have any minigames, or even the option to enter a player character’s name. The only interaction players have is clicking to proceed with the story. They’re still marketed and sold as games though, it’s just they’re not interactive and don’t have actual gameplay, haha. I know, it’s a weird one x3

The thing is though, I think VNs with choices and branching narratives are much more popular than kinetic VNs these days, and so a lot of people who play VNs aren’t even aware that kinetic VNs are a thing, so when they play a VN, they’re expecting choices etc. by default.

That’s why I tried to be clear on the page that there is only 1 choice per scenario, cos I didn’t want folks to go in expecting something else and wind up disappointed >.< Though, I did write that waaay at the bottom of the page, so I’ve now added it under the features section too in case that’s of any help to someone checking out the page in the future, haha.

As a gamer, I also struggle to view kinetic VNs as true games, but as a dev, when I know how much work has gone into coding something even if it doesn’t have choices, I’m also more inclined to still see those sorts of things as games. They’re just a really niche type of game, haha.

I don’t know if there’s any truth to it, but I remember reading that in Japan, it’s extremely frowned upon for streamers to stream the entirety of a kinetic VN since they don’t have choices and it might impact a game’s sales if potential players just watched a stream knowing that they will see 100% of the content cos there are no choices.

Anyways, I dunno if you saw my notices about this project before playing it (not blaming you at all if you didn’t cos I know many people don’t read game pages these days), but there’s a solid reason for this particular project not having choices :3

Basically, it’s an English fandub of a Japanese drama CD series. So unlike my other projects where the stories and characters are original concepts, this is literally just me localising some CDs and giving them visuals.

I didn’t want to mess with the original story of the CDs since it’s not my story and not my characters, so I only presented the 1 choice that appears in the CDs :3 Of course, with those, it’s just audio so you can’t click anything, but what happens is the track ends on the choice, then the listener just chooses which of 2 tracks to play next to get the love interest/ending that they want for that scenario.

I could have added extra choices, but that just wasn’t my intention with this project, especially when it’s originally in Japanese. I just wanted to share some random CDs that initially got me into yandere stuff with a wider audience :3

The original Japanese CDs were aimed solely at straight women. Making a fandub VN like this made it possible for me to not only open up the shenanigans to non-Japanese speakers but also allowed me to do things that aren’t possible with an audio CD, such as giving players a choice of pronouns or choosing the gender of the love interests they want to pursue :D

I did think about making an audio-only fandub, but in the end, I chose to go the VN route because I thought it would be more fun with some visuals + I kinda always envisioned the CD scenes in my head in a certain way, and I figured it would be amusing to try and pull those images from my mind and put em on a screen xD

Anyways, that was a long ramble, I’m sorry >.< I’m glad that you enjoyed the story and the art anyhow :3 Cheers again for checking it out!

I still think it should be labeled a novel and not a game if it reads like one.
At the very least make a warning for it on the page so the reader knows what they sign up for.

I've bumped into those novels that pretend to be games before, and it pisses me off every time.
Doubly so if I actually have paid for it --so I'm never buying visual novels that doesn't have choices right in the demo anymore.
Ideally choices with impact.
It's not worth it.

I think the problem could be sold if it was clearly marked that there is no choices in the game.
Or no choices that impact the game. And that there is only one ending.
(I'd say the same for puzzles and minigames inside a visual novel. Because it's so unexpected.
Some like them, some don't.)

That way people who like it can get it, and those who don't like it won't be disappointed and angry over it.

And I guess I must have missed that warning on your page somehow. lol
But at least if you had one, that's one me I guess.
Should have read it better.

And yeah... I've only tried to create a Choice of Game style game before, but I've found that the trick with it is to add a balanced amount of 'false choices' and real impactful choices, and then use a loop to stitch things up in a simple way.

Like... check out the game on itch... Perfect Love. (It's on list of games I like on my page.)
That game have relatively few branches, and reuse the majority of their scenes, but somehow manage to make the game feel very different at each play-trough, and have like 6 or 8 different endings.
All without a single false choice.

Done right you can cut down on the work while still giving the reader a feeling of a choice, and give them more ending options.
(Which is nice, because people root for different things to happen in the end. One person's happy ending isn't always the happy end of another person. Same with bad ends.)

But I'll admit I WAS pretty tired when I downloaded this game, so I probably skimped out on a lot of details.
And I see your reason for the lack of choices, even if I'm not a fan of the mentioned lack.

Try put warnings under a big "WARNING" sign.
People read this cuz some have phobias, some use the warning section to check how cool the game will be (blood, gore, sex and whatnot).
Although your game doesn't have much of that, but it does have a yandere. Which will attract more than it repels I think.
And I personally think that a lack of choices should be a warning.

And important info in bullet-points.
If you have a thing like that with the info of how many words, how many endings, puzzle or mini-games, and so on, it's more likely to get read.

People tend to skip to what looks like a easy summary.

It's nice to see a creator who's interesting in improving their game and game-page tho. ^_^

Even that would annoy others though because if they're expecting just a novel, they may be annoyed that it appears more like a game when it has visuals, a soundtrack, and voice acting >.<

I feel like it is about as clearly marked on the page as I could make it at this point though cos it's literally under the ‘Features’ section in a bullet point, which I'd like to hope a majority browsing the page would read :3 It looks like this:

Then again, it seems a significant number of people who have played don't even realise it's a fandub of a drama CD series, and that's practically the first thing on the page, so maybe there is just no hope of most people reading the notice >.<

---

I used to love the Choice of Games stuff :D And before that, I used to read the old Fighting Fantasy choose-your-own-adventure books :3

I know what you mean anyhow cos in most of my other games, I do tend to use that method of having some choices that are just there for fluff or a sprinkling of lore but don't have any real impact + other choices that either have an immediate impact on a story branch or a cumulative one that's only revealed later on in the story :D

---

I would check out Perfect Love, but honestly, my VN backlog is a mountain at this point T_T I have over 100 itch games I want to play but haven't managed to yet, haha. Many of which are yandere games x3 The problem is, gaming is awkward for me nowadays cos my setup isn't ideal, and I feel ridiculously guilty when I try to take a break from game dev to actually play games :(

---

But yeah, I do have bullet points under headers for both features and warnings on most of my game pages, the problem is, a lot of the time, people don't tend to read much of the page before playing >.<

I asked my brother at one point what he's like as a player and also his friends. He said he personally reads all the page details and follows different devs, but he said he's the exception in his friend circle x3 He said his friends tend to only look at YouTube playthroughs, screenshots,  or trailers, then download or buy based on that without reading any of the description text at all.

He also said his friends don't follow devs. They get their recommendations purely from YouTubers, so even if they love a game by a certain dev, they have no idea if that dev has released other projects they might like because they don't play stuff unless it's recommended by the YouTubers they follow >.< That seems like insanity to me, but I guess it must be fairly normal if that's how all of his friends find their games!

---

PS. Apologies in advance for the incoming spam! I'm about to reply to all your comments at once x3

I know I'm weird, but I have trouble switching tasks, so when it comes to responding to comments or replying to things in general, I struggle to just reply to 1 thing, and then go back to another task. So instead, I give myself an entire day of the week dedicated to replying to things, haha. And when it comes to replying to your comments, I've kind of written a LOT >.<

So yeah, sorry about that x3

Please don't feel like you even have to read all of it if you don't want to, let alone respond to it, haha.

(+2)

Hi!I played both volumes,I really enjoyed it.And I wanted to leave some of my thoughts.Well,I want to say that this was purely insane,I mean the plot and the characters which is understandable and honestly expected, when I say that I mean no offense to the author of the game who did a great job by creating such an amazing game that I enjoyed playing.I just have some love/hate relationship with the characters because I don't really like all this red flag guys, but I still decide giving a go with this game knowing that the characters are 'yandere'.I still must say that I LOVE THE GAME AND ENJOYED PLAYING IT!I hope there will be more volumes to play and update.I will be waiting.

(+1)

Hey! Thanks so much for playing :3 I’m glad you ended up having fun with it :D

Yeeeeah, I find I mainly just want to slap all of the characters for being so outrageous xD

I’m not sure when I will be working on the next volume because I’m trying to finish a different project at the moment (this one x3), but I’ll hopefully get around to completing more volumes someday :3

Thanks again for checking it out <3

(+2)

ok ima test this game out because uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

becaus why not? idk

(+2)

wish my mental health good luck ig

You’ll be fiiiiine x3 At least I hope so, haha. It’s just a goofy game really :3 Definitely not something to take too seriously anyways. And also definitely not everyone’s cup of tea xD

(+2)

Guys i NEED Sakae and Atsushi

(+2)

But they are both eeeeeeviiiiiil x3 They’ll kidnap you and never let you go!!! Then I’ll have to call the police x3

(+2)

ty for adapting this in a way that english-speaking audiences can interact with..! i dont know japanese outside of a few words so the only way i can listen to the og tracks is via subtitled uploads on youtube lol- if you ever do the other ones ill be looking forward to them..!

It was a lot of fun to try and do :D Thanks so much for checking it out! :3

I think this is so cute! When I heard it was going to be a fandub of a drama CD I didn't know how it would go, but I think it works out well. I read through the whole page just to find out if there was a schedule and I saw people were rating this low because they didn't understand that. Which is awful. Something you might do is advertise it as a kinetic visual novel? It would also need a little explaining due to branching routes, but in large part there's no choices, so that would probably be a more accurate explanation. Of course, it's just a suggestion and it's up to you to brand as you see fit! (God, I feel like I'm horrible at explaining what's going on in my head)

If/when you get to the next story, I'd love to help out! I'm not a great voice actor, but when I was with my ex she told me I had a pretty good yandere voice. But keep your head up, you're doing great work. (I don't remember if I commented on other projects or this one before-- I feel like I must have but I am terribly forgetful.)

I’m so glad you had fun with it despite it being what it is, haha. It means a lot that you stuck with it and think it works out well :3

I do think that you’re right, it probably would help to call it a kinetic VN, but there’s one giant problem… it seems many people don’t read the game page at all >.< so they’d probably wind up missing the memo :(

I think that’s the cause of a lot of the negative comments I get on the game (and on some of my other projects too >.<) the fact that sometimes, people just don’t read all the info on the page, so they’re commenting out of context.

And I mean, I don’t blame em cos I ramble a lot, so there tends to be a lot of info to digest T_T haha. But I literally cannot put things any more concisely because I really struggle to do that in general thanks to my ASD :(

But no, you’re not horrible at explaining what’s going on in your head at all! X3 I get ya! And ti would make sense to advertise it that way :3 I just reeeeally suck at explaining anything at all, haha.

That’s super kind of you to offer help :3 I’m always looking to work with different people, so I guess whenever another script is ready, I could give you a poke or something. Also, feel free to drop me a demo of your voice to my email anytime! That way, I’ll have a better idea of the kinds of characters it might fit :D

And thank you :3 I’m just sorta slowly emerging from a big ol period of burnout right now, but it means a lot to read such kind words <3

Honestly, my memory is awful, so if you did comment on other projects before, I would probably have forgotten and would need something to jog my memory x3 I can’t even remember the birthdays of people in my own family without a billion calendar reminders xD Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to check out my stuff and write something so sweet :3

(+1)

Of course! Do you have your email listed somewhere so I can send the voice demo?

I do have it listed on my main dev page here + on most of the game pages I think, but to make things easier, I can just type it out here :3

It’s:

melancholicmarionette@gmail.com

Apologies if you have already sent something >.< I haven’t been able to get on my PC at all these past couple of weeks.

Hope you have happy holidays & an awesome new year :3

(+1)

i played the 1 volume years ago and i'm happy the 2 one was also good, what i also loved were the bloopers

Thanks so much for playing both volumes :D I definitely prefer the story and the characters in volume 02, but that’s because I hate stories with school settings with a passion xD

Glad you enjoyed the bloopers as well! Bloopers and outtakes are my favourite extras on movies, so it’s fun to include them in games too :3

(-3)

i'm cursing my friend because he said that this game is my favorite

...i didn't even played it and don't want to

It’s a good job no one is forcing you to play it then! x3

Unless your friend does force you to, and then I guess you’re in trouble xD

(+1)

Nah I'm not getting forced

He just write that in his profile for no damn reason lmao

Well thanks now I want to give it a try >:(

(+1)

two questions, when will it be finished, and why is aoi so cute

Sorry I’m so slow to get back to you. I’ve been dealing with a lot of personal stuff lately that had me avoiding my PC completely for the past couple of months >.<

Firstly, thanks so much for playing the game :D

And to answer your questions…

Regarding when it will be finished, I honestly have no idea x3 It won’t be anytime soon! This is pretty much just a slow side project that I come back to when I don’t feel like working on my main projects, so development is extra slow >.<

There’s also some content in volume 03 that I personally don’t feel that comfortable with, so I’m not sure yet whether I will be skipping over it or not! I might try to make it work if I can :3 I want to try and stay as true as possible to the original stories of each volume when I work on localising them, but I think that’s gonna be quite difficult for me with volume 03. 03 is also my least favourite of all the CDs, haha.

Whatever happens though, I will finish it eventually :3 At least the volumes are self-contained stories I guess.

As for Aoi… hmm, yeeeeah, but she’s also a massive biiiiiiitch x3

Thanks again for playing!

(+1)

aaahhhhhh i love this game XD you have done such a lovely job i cant wait for the other volumes!

Thanks so much for checking it out! And I’m super glad to hear you had fun with it ^-^

I can’t lie, it might be quite a while before I can finish the other volumes cos it’s a bit of a snail-paced side project, and there are also some issues with the content in volume 03 that I’m not entirely comfortable with xD But if I can find a way to make it work with a translation that doesn’t completely kill the meaning of the original story for that volume, then I’ll still try my best to localise it, haha.

Thanks again for playing :3

(+1)

Hi this game looks really awesome, would love to experience it. So to my question will you be dropping it on Android anytime soon?

Like I said would love to check this game out if possible ofc :D

Hey hey! Glad you think it looks worth checking out :3

Unfortunately, even though I would really love to have this and all of my other projects on Android, I just don't know how to get them to work on Android T_T

I tried in the past, but every build I made just resulted in my phone displaying a blank screen even though the software told me the builds were successful :(

I don't really know what went wrong, so I'm either gonna need someone to teach me how to do it right, or try again sometime now that I have a different PC and hope that I can get it to work at some point x3

I think it would take quite a lot of time because not only do I need to figure out how to make builds playable on Android, but I'd likely also need to adapt the UI to work better on a mobile screen >.<

So while it's something I definitely want to do in the future, it's not likely to be any time soon since I don't know how right now :(

I'm sorry that's not very helpful >.< A few people have mentioned that some of my games work on emulators on Android phones, but as far as I'm aware, they don't run that smoothly on emulators and can crash randomly. I just thought I'd mention it in case it's something you wanted to try.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I really appreciate your interest in the game though :3

(+1)

Thanks for the reply!

I completely understand the situation I just recently got myself a pc so I plan on checking it out sometime soon. I will defo leave a review once im done but still interested whats in store for this game : )

Oh, nice! Congrats on your new PC :D I hope it works better than mine cos mine just seems to be dodgy even though it’s been replaced twice now T_T

Hope you end up having fun whenever you do play the game :3 And that you get to have an awesome January in general!

(+1)

I absolutely love this game, I adore the style and charm you put into your games! Also Tomomi is my favorite yandere 🥰

I'm so glad you had fun with this one too! Really appreciate you checking out so many of my games and leaving so many sweet comments :3

I'd say Tomomi/Takaaki is my favourite too out of the ones here, haha. Saeka/Sakae is just too much of an asshole x3

(+1)

Thank you for taking the time to reply to all my comments, I'm glad to know you've read them x3

Haha, I agree, Tomomi/Takaaki treats you a lot better than Saeka/Sakae! I like sweet yanderes best <3

I'm extra slow to reply this time cos I still haven't been back on my PC with all the October shenanigans x3 Halloween might be over now, but I've got a mountain of housework and other chores to catch up on before I can actuallu return to projects cos the house is a dump after being neglected for a month, haha.

It's funny cos I used to prefer the more dominant and cruel kinds of yanderes, but over time, I've come to appreciate the sweet ones much more :3 Aaaaand, in some ways, they can be even scarier than the more aggressive ones! I definitely think Tomomi turns out more terrifying in the end xD

(+1)

No worries, I also had to take awhile to respond xD Good luck on getting all your tasks done!

I agree that a sweet yandere can be quite scary! (Not that I mind, I find the scary aspect quite appealing x3 ) There's something really fun about a person who seems sweet on the outside but on the inside they're quite terrifying! Seeing Tomomi's sweetness break down overtime was quite enjoyable, and I'd be lying if I said her obsessive thoughts didn't make me blush!xD

I'm glad I sided with Tomomi because I would not want to be on her bad side, especially with what she did at the end!

(+1)

Oh my goodness! Oh my golly! When did volume 2 release?! Why did I miss it?!?! I'm going to redownload this game immediately. I have amazing memories of my past playthroughs, so I'm very excited to see the additional content!!

(+1)

That is how I feel about pretty much everything when I realise it's out cos I follow loads of stuff that looks interesting, but then I do an awful job at actually keeping up with news related to it all, haha. I'm forever kicking myself about finding out stuff too late x3

Hope you end up having fun with volume 02 whenever you get round to playing it :3 I personally prefer the vol 02 characters and scenario! Mostly though, I just hope it isn't disappointing xD

(+1)

currently one of my fav games on this platform such like a i dont wann say simple idea but its so smart im amazed theres not much more stuff like this a amzing concept of making a vn out of drama cds ish sooooo good loved the pastel goth presentation will be checking out more of your work for sure fellow yandere lover <3

(+1)

I’m glad to hear that you have enjoyed the project so far ^-^

Honestly, if I had more time, I would make soooo many drama CDs into English voiced VNs x3 Cos there are a lot of cool drama CDs out there both old and new! Localising stuff like that can feel like a nice break from writing original content cos sometimes I get a bit burned out when writing my own original projects >.< haha.

Almost all of my games feature some sort of yandere, so if you do end up checking out my other stuff, I hope you will have fun :D

Thanks so much for playing this one!! :3

going through your game catalog by older to newer of the ones that intrest me its nice to see how much people grow and get better theyre very enjoyable ^v^ hope to see more projects love your games so far!!!

(+1)

Why did I take so long to play this game? I loved your adaptation, unfortunately it's a shame we have to choose two paths, this is a difficult choice 😩

(+1)

Glad to hear you like it :D In volume 02, I will always be team Takaaki/Tomomi x3 Sakae/Saeka make me want to put them in a headlock, haha.

(1 edit) (+1)

I LOVE SAEKA !! I cant wait to see more of your projects!! I'm curious on who drew saeka and tomomi? I'd love to see more of the artist's work :D

She’s certainly stunning :D though I’m still team Tomomi in that volume :P (sorry, Saeka >.<)

I should be able to link you to the artist :3 They’re from Japan. They sell their art as assets so people like me who can’t draw to save their lives can still make games x3 All I did was edit the colours & some of the expressions, haha.

I think I put their name in the credits doc, but you can find their stuff here :3

I believe they also accept commissions! Tbh, I might end up using more of their sprite assets for future volumes of this project because it’s really pretty ^-^

Thanks for checking out the project!!

(+1)

I absolutely adore Takaaki and Tomomi <3 thank you so much for creating this

Glad to hear it :D I am definitely team Takaaki/Tomomi myself x3 Thank YOU so much for playing <3

(+2)

nice stuff keep creatin' :)

Thank you ^-^ hopefully I will be able to :3

(+5)

Why do I think Sakae and Takaaki want each other?

(+1)

Maybe they do xD Or a threesome with MC if they can stop arguing for 5 seconds >.<

(1 edit) (+1)

Yeah XD I really wish there was an option for that butttttt anyways, I loved the volume and keep up with the good work!

<3

(+1)

It's me again but on a different account because I forgot the password to my main one >.<

But I do have a morbid curiosity of seeing the characters without the pink filter n stuff. Also I did check your comments about your other projects and I was surprised that you're the same creator who made Darling Duality :D it really makes me happy than ever.

Ahh x3 That happens to me a lot with different places, haha.

I could always post how they all look without the colour edits :3 I should have the stock sprites on one of my hard drives somewhere! It might take me a while to dig them up, but if I get a chance at some point, I’ll whip together a quick image and post it here :D

Aha, yeah, that’s me x3 That’s cool that you know of Darling Duality too :3 I just realised a couple of days ago that it’s been 4 years since I released my first-ever game here on itch xD

It doesn’t feel like I’ve been making games for that long already, haha. Dunno where all the time has gone >.< And it took me around 3 years to make my first game start to finish since it was pretty long and I was also my grandma’s carer at the time, so technically, I’ve been doing game dev for 6-7 years now o.O

My brain can’t even comprehend that, haha.

(+1)

fehsehfsiubse such a nice gamee <333333333

Glad you like it :D Thanks so much for checking it out!! :3

(+2)

I Love it so far 10/10
(+1)

:D That's great to hear!! Thanks so much for playing this one too <3 The 2nd volume is better than the 1st one IMO, but that's just personal preference I guess cos I kinda hate school settings in games with a passion thanks to playing waaaay too many school-based otome games in the past, haha.

(+1)

<333

<3

🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍

<3 <3 <3 Thanks so much for playing this one too! It was a fun update to work on, haha. Really loving that video thumbnail :D Poor Takaaki x3

(1 edit) (+1)

FUUCK i love saeka but i also love takaaki why is r they both hot.

:D Hope you end up having fun!! Hehe x3 Well, I'm team Takaaki cos Sakae/Saeka is just too much for me xD At least Takaaki/Tomomi is kinda sweet in a way, haha.

Someone else said they had this problem recently and it was caused by some sort of issue with the itch.io servers that they were trying to download from >.<

For them, I uploaded the file to Google Drive instead and they were able to download it from there successfully :3

I don’t know if it will help you, but if you want to try it, this is a link for the direct download from Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u0WSypwd8tkZww7rVcAZwCAnQE86SxFV/view?usp=shari...
(this is for the windows version - if you need the mac one instead, just lemme know :3)

I hope it helps! Thanks for your interest in the game :3

Sorry my reply is so slow >.< I'm just really busy at the moment :(

I have now uploaded the Mac version to the same place which you can find here :3
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mI09a6RIIrnMlECfjhMGM_ApTEuIWpHs/view?usp=shari...

Sadly, the game doesn't have any translations at the moment and is only available in English :( I'm hoping to work with translators at some point in the future to include different language translations in some of my games, but it will probably take a lot of time to complete them. Especially since I need to learn how to actually implement them as well >.<

There is also the problem that some of my project files will be broken when updating the games depending on how old they are :( But I will try to include other languages eventually :3

Sorry again I have been so slow to get back to you >.< I hope the new link for the Mac version works + that you get to have a great weekend :3

(+7)

I NEED TO RIDE SAEKAS STRAP SO BAD NGH

(+1)

Very cute !1!!1! and I LOVE the style of it ! This is honestly such an Amazing Game and the voice acting makes this even better! I recently played The graveyard Shift so i kinda checked your profile to see if you had more and discovered this Gem ☆~☆ keep up the amazing work ! Im so Yuri for Aoi and Tomomi...

So glad you enjoyed it :D And that’s so cool that you found this after checking out The Graveyard Shift! That’s one of the least played of all my projects, so it’s a big surprise to hear you came across that one first x3

I’m glad you decided to play it though and check out some of my other stuff too ^-^ As you can probably tell, I ended up getting kind of obsessed with making VNs, haha.

Thanks for all your kind words <3
