Bugs & Stuff

Please use this section to comment on any bugs you find in the game, no matter how big or small, and I will do my best to try and fix them :3

Since I was in such a rush to finish the game by Christmas/jam deadlines, there are bound to be some bugs in there! I did fully test the windows version multiple times and didn't run into anything major, so I need your help to identify all the little things :D

Some stuff I'm aware of but didn't have time to fix:

  • Text bleeding out of the text box on one or two longer lines

  • Some text not quite matching the voiced lines

  • Text box sometimes not resizing/repositioning properly when playing in resolutions other than 1920x1080 16:9

  • The odd typo and text misalignment

  • Certain UI button sounds being waaay too loud and not controlled by the SFX volume slider (I didn't know how to fix this at the time, but it's something I now know how to do, so will be sure to rectify it in the next update :3)

If you spot anything, please let me know the following:

  • Which platform are you playing on?

  • Which character route are you playing?

  • Where abouts did the issue occur (can you remember what happened before/after?)

  • What was it that you noticed?

Thanks for your help :D

Hi, good afternoon, I recently installed your game (in this case, I wanted to install it before but I only managed to do it now) and the game crashed, in this case, I haven't even been able to play it yet, I always install this type of game on Windows (already which is the option compatible with my computer) and I downloaded the most recent/updated version, but my computer kind of got stuck on a blue screen where I couldn't touch anything else and there was just a white pentagon on the screen, no There is no button or choice option, I don't know if this is a problem with my computer or the file I downloaded, either way, sorry for the inconvenience

Hey hey! Sorry my reply is a bit slow >.< I’ve been away from my PC recently, so I only just saw your comment.

Hmm, that is very strange >.< I haven’t had any reports of anything like that before, so I’m guessing it maybe is something weird with your computer, but you never know! It could just be something about the game that your computer doesn’t like for some reason.

Unfortunately, I’m not likely to be of much help because I’m not a very techy person :( I use Naninovel within Unity, and I test on my Windows PC and my Windows potato laptop, and if I can’t replicate bugs on either of those, I never really know what to do to help if someone is having an issue T_T

What is it that you clicked to launch the game? Because you shouldn’t actually have to install anything to get it to run. You just download the file from itch, and then after extracting the file into a folder, there should be a file in there called ‘Darling Duality - Demo.exe’ and that’s the one you want to click on. After double-clicking on it, it should just launch the game.

I have no idea what would cause a pentagon shape to show up because I don’t think any of the Unity splash screens use a pentagon, and I only use diamond and circle shapes within the game’s assets >.< So it’s a bit of a mystery.

I’m sorry I can’t be of more help :(

Hello! I wanted to play the game but I'm stuck at the loading screen when you start the game [Windows user here]

Hey hey! Thanks so much for checking out the project :3 Sorry my reply is so slow >.< my dominant arm is broken atm, so typing stuff up takes me a while on my phone notes, haha. Hopefully you got it working somehow by now, but if not, was it the file named 'Darling Duality - Demo - (Windows)' that you downloaded?

I only ask because that's the most recently updated/current version of the game. There was a rare problem with one of the much older versions of the game that used a video background on the title screen, where for some reason, it refused to load on some computers. The old builds are still available to download though for anyone who happened to want to compare the original version to the current version since a lot has changed.

Also, when you say that it's stuck at the loading screen when you start the game, is that before even reaching/loading the title screen where it's a blank grey screen with a little white hourglass in the corner? Or is it on the title screen when you press to start a new game?

Oh, and does it show the 'Unity' logo when you hit the exe file and start the game, or does it not even get that far?

If it is the latest demo you've downloaded, I don't really know what would cause it to do that >.< It's not something I can replicate on my end cos I only have my PC and my potato laptop to test on, and it runs on both of those, so I'd probably have to send you a dev build version of the demo and ask if you could pass me the error logs that it should spit out when the failure to load occurs!

If you want to try that, feel free to drop me an email letting me know where the best place to send the build would be :3 Email: melancholicmarionette@gmail.com

The problem is, I probably won't be able to get a build sent to you for quite a while because someone broke my arm last week, and it's currently in a cast, so I'm not able to use my PC atm, and was told it's probably gonna be around 6 weeks to heal >.<

(+1)

Hello! It worked when I re- installed it so its already good! I hope your arm heals soon !

Oh, that's brilliant! I'm so glad it worked :3 With any luck, you had fun with the demo then, haha. Thanks ^-^

(+1)

hello there! i downloaded your game but wasn't able to open it at all. i redownloaded it thrice but it just wouldn't open. i'm using a mac and i know it's prone to issues when it comes to games on itch.io so either i'm doing something wrong or something's wrong with the game for me. thanks!

Hey hey! Sorry my reply is so slow, I've been ill since before Christmas, and only just starting to feel well enough to get back on my PC >.<

With any luck, you managed to get it running, but if not, did you try some of the methods listed here?  As far as I'm aware, at least one of them seems to work for most people. I don't own a mac myself, so I can't really bug fix or test stuff for mac versions personally >.< but all the stuff on that list is stuff that was suggested by other mac users who managed to figure out different ways of getting it to work for them :3

Someone even said that just downloading all itch games through the itch app on mac solves the problem 9 times out of 10, but since I haven't been able to test that myself, I can't say for certain!

Thanks so much for checking out the game :3

(1 edit)

Hi there,

I noticed there are quite a few lines of dialogue for Castoria that don't have any voice acting.  Was this intentional, or is this a bug?

Platform: Windows

When does this occur? very frequently.  When Castoria makes you coffee, for example.

Unfortunately, it's intentional x3 Not ideal, but I don't have a choice at the moment.

Basically, it's because the original game jam version of this was fully-voiced, and because it was for a jam, the voice actors very kindly volunteered their time and talent to the project :3 I recently gave the old content a total revamp to give people a better idea of how I want the game to look going forward, and part of the update included more choices and a tiny bit more content than what was available originally.

Sadly, because it's been so long and because voice acting is expensive, I'm kind of in limbo at the moment as far as getting new lines voiced is concerned. Thanks to everyone's support, I do have a bit of funding to go towards paying voice actors, but because of the huge gap in time, it's looking like it may not be possible to get the same voice actors back to reprise their roles.

I didn't want to put the mini-update off forever because I'd been sitting on it for quite some time (same as I have a lot more content written, just not playable yet) and so I just kept all the original voice acting in there, and the new lines of dialogue are currently unvoiced.

Hopefully, that will change at some point. Even if it's not possible to get the original VAs back, it'll most likely be a case of trying to recast actors with similar voices.

But yeah, whenever you come across an unvoiced line of dialogue in the demo, it's just because it's a new line that didn't exist in the original jam version of the game, so it doesn't have any voice acting yet :3

Hello! I recently got your game, and so far I'm really loving it! However, I didn't notice it until I checked some Let's Play videos, but like another user in this thread, I encountered the same issue of not seeing any backgrounds at all. I am able to see the text boxes and texts though, and the bgm and voices are perfectly okay, though the background I have the whole time throughout playing is nothing but a blank gray screen. Also, as I continued reading the text, I got to a loading screen, and I think the game froze... the hourglass on the bottom right corner isn't spinning like it should be, but the audio is still playing in the background. I can't really exit the game as well since I am in full screen mode, and pressing esc on my keyboard doesn't seem to help, so I'm pretty much just stuck on the loading screen ;-;

Not sure if anyone has encountered that issue with the loading screen, but I haven't encountered this issue with any previous loading screens until now. As for the blank backgrounds, I've actually had that happening since I launched the game and got to the title screen.

Idk what's the cause of these issues, but hopefully you can help me (and any other players who encountered this issue) fix this issue?

I'm currently playing on the Windows Full Version, Castor's route, and to be specific about the frozen loading screen, I would say it's after where the MC wakes up from oversleeping? I don't exactly remember haha. As for the blank backgrounds, it started right when I got to the title screen and started a new game.

Thank you so much for looking into this issue, and I hope you have a great day!

Hey hey! Thanks so much for playing the game :3 I'm glad you were enjoying it so far even if it wasn't functioning the way it was supposed to >.<

Unfortunately, I'm not even going to be able to look into this for you at the moment because the code for the version of the game you're currently playing no longer exists. So I'm sorry about that :( I don't know if you're aware of the big update I'm currently working on for DD, but yesterday I finished the complete revamp for all existing content.

Because I originally made what's currently available of the game as part of a jam, I only had 1 month to learn how to use Unity and Nani (cos I got it just before the jam, prior to that, I was using Tyranobuilder). As a result of the deadline + my inexperience with the new engine, my code was incredibly messy. Too messy to work with going forward now that I've learned a lot over the last couple of years. So I decided to rewrite all of it, along with making many tweaks and additions to the existing story content.

Once I release the big update, anyone wishing to continue playing will need to start over because I've changed so much that old saves and the old version of the game won't work.

Changes include: A brand new title screen with new original theme track, redesigned menus, a new introduction section where the player can pick their name + pronouns, a personality system, new backgrounds, more choices (including some timed ones), around 100 new lines of dialogue for Castor/ia (to account for responses to all the new choices), and various additions to Castor/ia's existing story content. Then there's also gonna be two more characters introduced + new story content for Castor/ia :3

If you wanted to check out my little progress updates, I post them on Twitter cos itch recommendeds only posting bigger updates here since it will send emails out to followers, and no one wants to be spammed x3

As you say, a small handful of people seemed to have that issue with backgrounds not loading, and I never managed to gather enough information to figure out why. They're only png files, so it's not like they're weird files or anything >.< But there was also an issue for some people where they couldn't get past the the title screen because instead of loading the video background, it loaded a black screen for them. I managed to fix that for people at the time by making an alternate version where the title screen just has a static png background rather than the video one, but I didn't want to have to keep releasing two versions with different title screens going forward. So as part of the upcoming update, I made a title screen that's animated from within the game, rather than using a video background, which should hopefully work for everyone.

With any luck, whatever the issue is with backgrounds not loading for you will be fixed automatically with all my changes to the code in the new update :3 But if not, I'll have to send you a development build and get you to send me all the error logs your computer generates to hopefully be able to figure out what's causing them to not load.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the reason it will have frozen/crashed for you is because of some sort of conflict trying to access resources (like the backgrounds) that aren't there. Cos something like backgrounds missing is bound to cause other issues further down the line :(

As I mentioned, the revamp of existing content is now complete, but I won't be releasing the update until I've got the new content in there too. I'm aiming for the end of spring, but you never know what might go wrong, haha.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful in fixing it for you now though >.< It's impossible for me to even try since that version of the game is now defunct and non-existent in an editable form. I didn't keep any backups of the old code just because I knew I'd be changing so much I wouldn't have a use for it anymore. I just hope that it all works as intended for you when I manage to release the update :3

(+1)

It's totally okay! I understand your situation. Working on a game by yourself is no easy job, so take as much time as you need to work on any future updates, and make sure to get plenty of rest (we all want to make sure you're doing perfectly well each and every day)! ^^ I'm no tech wizz myself, but hearing about all the hard work you've put into this game certainly sounds exhausting, though your determination to continue working on it for everyone to enjoy is quite admirable!

And ooh, all those changes in the new update sound interesting! I'll definitely keep an eye out for them hehe. And I'll follow you on Twitter too to check out the latest news! I'm really looking forward to see how much potential and growth goes into DD (and even your other works)! I feel like they'll be a big hit in the future XD

I'm excited to see any new content you release, so I wish you all the best, and I will support you all the way on your journey with this game's development >:3

Thanks so much for being so understanding and patient :3 It means the world to me to have such amazing supporters. It certainly is slow going working solo, haha. It would be easier if I could clone myself so I could work on different things at the same time x3 I have been trying to make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep most nights, which is more than I used to, haha. When I'm participating in jams, I often get by on 3-5 hours per night for the duration of the jam, and I know that's kinda unhealthy >.< It's a little difficult for me to get out of jam-mode, haha, but I'm trying to set a healthier pace while working on DD :3

If there's one thing I do have, it's a whole bunch of determination x3 It might be slightly insane, but I'm also hoping I might somehow manage to release my older on-hold project CiQ later this year as well just because I feel awful that the writing is pretty much finished for the whole thing, voice acting was completed for the demo/full common route, sprites were redrawn by an amazing artist, and an awesome video editor put together character intro vids, and yet it's all just frozen in time >.< I put it on hold because there was very little interest in the project, and knowing I wouldn't be able to afford to get the whole thing fully voiced really killed my motivation because I love hearing voices breathe life into my characters so much :3 But it seems such a shame to have the whole thing shelved for so long >.< If I sell enough of my clothes, I might be able to at least afford partial VA for it, haha. So I'm thinking I might try and get an update or two for DD released, and then push myself to actually complete CiQ and get it out there in the wild :3 Then it won't keep popping up in my head to haunt me every now and again xD That's where clones would come in handy again though, cos I could work on DD while my clones finish putting CiQ together x3

I really hope I can manage to pull off the vision I have in my head for DD eventually though :3 It's gonna take time, but I'll keep at it :D

Still, though, I'm sorry again for how useless I've been in regards to helping with your particular problem >.< I hate it when I'm powerless to fix stuff. Part of the reason I switched engines was in the hope that fewer weird bugs like that would pop up, but nope, they still happen x3 I'm really hoping it will work as intended for you straight outta the box once I've got the update out. But if it doesn't, we'll definitely have to get to the bottom of it! And even if I can't figure it out on my own, the dev of the engine I use with Unity has a huge support section on Discord, so as long as I have error logs, the community should be able to help me figure it out :3

Thanks again for everything! I really appreciate it ^-^

for some reason my game does not have any sound at the moment. i am using the full version  windows the most recent one 7/9/2021

Sorry for my super slow reply >.< I've been offline for a few months due to personal reasons, but I'm back now!

I hope you managed to find a fix for the sound, especially since I don't know for sure what could be causing it >.<

What I do know is that back when I made the game IMPOSTOR for Scream Jam, once the submission period for ages ended, I went and played through everyone else's games, and when it came to those made in Unity, it was 50/50 as to whether or not I had sound >.< I checked with the devs whether or not their games had sound (some didn't cos they didn't have time to finish sound design before the deadline) and many devs said that there was supposed to be sound.

I did some Googling, and found out that a lot of people seemed to have a missing sound issue with games made in Unity. Some concluded it was to do with audio drivers on their systems, but mine were all up to date, and I was still missing sound on a lot of games >.<

I never did manage to fix it for myself! If you did come across a way to solve the problem, I'd really appreciate knowing what you tried to get it working so that I can make a note of it to add to the page for anyone else who might come across the issue :3

Hi! I just tried to launch the game and had a similar issue to another person in this thread. After I launched the game, a loading icon appeared in the corner of the screen, and music started playing in the background. However, the screen was still black and no options came up. I tried leaving the screen for a few minutes to see if anything would happen, but it stayed the same. I saw from the other person's experience it might be because of the file that normally plays on the main menu.

(+1)

Hey hey! Thanks so much for checking out the game :3 Yeah, there's this really weird issue where some people's computers don't like the .mp4 video background on the title screen for some reason >.< I have no idea why, but I managed to fix it by replacing the video background with a static .png image version instead!

On the downloads page, you should be able to see a bunch of files called "Black Screen Bug Fix (name of platform)/Possible Black Screen Bug Fix (name of platform)" So just select the one for whichever system you want to play the game on, download it, and try running that version instead because that's the one which contains the png background instead of video background.

Hopefully, that does the trick for you, but if not, feel free to let me know so I can look into it :3 Once I release the next episode, I'll be sure to make both versions and name the files in a different way so that it's a bit clearer for anyone who doesn't know about the bug.

Thank you again and I hope you have a great week :3

I just downloaded the Bug Fix version, and it seems to be working fine! I haven't actually started the game, but the main menu did come up this time. So, I think that's a good sign! Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it. And I'm very excited to check the game out!

I hope you have a wonderful week as well! Thanks again!

(+1)

I seem to be having an issue with the game not fitting on my screen? It's far larger than it should be, and it's difficult to navigate. I specifically downloaded the Windows Full Version. Have there been any issues like this, and if so, is there a way to fix it? Would love to play this for myself, especially after seeing ManlyBadassHero's play through of your game.

Hey hey :3 Thanks for supporting the game and sorry to hear about the screen issues you've run into >.< It could possibly be because I set the latest update to only support 16:9 resolution due to the custom UI I made not scaling correctly to different screen sizes for some reason. While I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, I've noticed in some videos I've seen of a couple of people playing it that the UI doesn't look as it should and I think it's because I allowed window resizing.

Do you know what size screen/resolution you're using?

I made it all to work on 1920x1080 16:9 because that's what I'm using and I don't have any other devices I can test on >.< I was hoping to get everything looking fine for future updates so I can properly support other resolutions, but as of right now, I still don't know why the UI won't scale.

If you're on something that isn't 1920x1080 16:9, I can go and make a different build pretty easily that allows you to change those settings, but the UI might be really messed up until I can figure out the scaling issue >.<

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for responding! I managed to look it up, and my screen has a 1280 x 1024 resolution, with a 10:1 contrast ratio. So it is widely different than expected. ^^;

If it really isn't too much trouble, I'd greatly appreciate it! Take all the time you need. I can definitely understand why there may be issues, but as long as it's playable, then I'll be happy. ^w^

Alrighty! I looked into it and changed my settings on Unity to see how it would look and so much of the UI is buggered >.< Both the player and Castor/ia's text boxes are messed up, and so is the settings + save/load menu, and the title screen. The backgrounds seem to be scaling correctly, most of the sprites appear to be, and even some of the UI is. So I don't understand why some parts are and some parts aren't when I have all of it set to scale :(

Without knowing why it won't scale when I've asked it to, all I can do is remake the entire thing specifically to that resolution, which would probably take me a hell of a long time >.< or, put all the UI back to the default ones which should all scale correctly.

Changing the UI back to default would be much quicker because I could do that in a day, but, of course, the game wouldn't look as nice as it should. However, it should at least be playable like that.

For the most part though, selecting different types of display is a long-term problem that I'm probably gonna need to ask for help in order to fix because I'm still new to the way Unity's UI stuff works and I despise it, haha. Everything to do with UI just gives me a giant headache. My non-tech brain can't understand why it won't do the thing I'm asking it to do x3

Let me know anyhow because if you don't mind playing with boring default UI, I should be able to get a fix to you pretty sharpish :3 If so, lemme know where to send it to you. Or if you don't want to post contact details here, just drop me an email to: melancholicmarionette@gmail.com

Sorry again for the hassle >.<

(+1)

heyo!! I got the Windows full version on Castor's route (tho I did try switching to Castoria and it's still the same T^T) and played quite a bit (up until Cas started acting a lil sussy) until I was like HUH .. something tells me this bg shouldn't have been black for this long >:L and quickly peeked at lets plays to confirm that there should have been backgrounds w the character being shown and I felt like a DUNCE SKJHSJKS. So yeah, only thing I can see is the text box! I downloaded the black screen bug fix file as well and kept on changing the screen mode for each file, but alas, still no Cas T^T

so I was wondering if I missed a step or something or if there's a way to fix it on my end? I'm not the most tech savvy >o<

Hey hey! Thanks so much for supporting the game :3 and sorry to hear you've run into a pesky bug >.< It's not one I've had reported before and I've never come across it myself while testing on my end, so it could be a bit of a bugger to nail, but I'll certainly give it a go!

The black screen bug fix file won't be of any use because that one is purely for the few folks who got a black screen on startup. It's a weird one caused by the video background on the title screen. For some reason, it doesn't play on certain computers even though it's just an mp4 file, and so you get the title music and everything, but because the video background doesn't load, it's just a black screen and you can't proceed with the game >.< So the fix was just replacing the video background with a static png file instead. I'm sure someone with more knowledge would know why it happens, but I'm not the most tech-savvy person myself, haha.

This one that you've run into seems really odd and I'm gonna have to ask you a few questions to properly identify which part of the game it's happening in. So here's what I need to know so I can go hunting :3

  1. What's the last line of text in the text box before the backgrounds disappear and don't come back?

  2. Does the game allow you to proceed still with new text filling the box while still no sprites and backgrounds? Or does it just freeze up once it gets to that point?

  3. Is there any sound playing at all?

  4. Did you try starting a new game and getting to the same point? (Sometimes, really weird bugs occur out of nowhere when the text skip function is used or when text is skipped too fast manually and I have no idea why but they can persist in save files as well. Sometimes starting a new game fixes the problem.)

  5. What's the last line of text in the text box that you've gotten up to so far in the game overall?
(+1)

ofc, it's such a good game!!! as evidenced by my being so engrossed in it that it took me ages to realize I was missing a bunch of stuff XD like I'm already so impressed and having so much fun!!

1. I think it starts as soon as the game starts! But not everything is missing. Like for instance, there is the falling snow effect during the introduction, and there is the glitchy overlay during that one scene.

2. it does! I went a good while before realizing there was supposed to be sprites and backgrounds pfft

3. yes, there is! mostly part of the reason I became so engrossed to the point where I almost didn't notice TwT voice acting, effects, and music, it's all working perfectly!

4. Yes, I did T^T I've also tried reinstalling the game and restarting my PC as well and none of it seems to work.

5. I've put together some screenshots if you need visuals, as well as the last line I've made it in the game so far!

(+1)

Well, I'm glad you were enjoying it that much x3 but yeeeeah, oh boy, that is definitely not how it's supposed to look, haha. From the way you first described it, I thought you meant that it was okay in the beginning and then at a certain point, the backgrounds disappeared and never came back... but this is just nuts O.O I've never seen anything like it before. I also notice that the text box in the last shot is messed up because in my test build, the setting cog is inside the box. But that's a different problem altogether with the UI not properly adapting to different resolutions I think >.<

Thanks for all the info anyhow! I didn't really know where to even begin so I went straight to the engine support channel on discord, explained what you've said + posted the screenshots and I just asked if anyone happened to know what could possibly be causing this. Someone replied to me and said that it's too difficult to really know without looking at error log files >.< So they told me to make a development build and send that to you, and to get you to access the logs after running the development build (they explained to me where to find the logs cos I wouldn't have had a clue, haha.) Then get you to send me the logs so that I can post those in support in order to give them a better idea. So I guess it's not gonna be a super easy fix >.< I was kinda hoping someone would say, oh yeah, I've run into this before, you just need to do X to fix it, haha.

So yeah, uhm, I'm gonna need a way to contact you privately in order to send you the dev build so if you don't mind, just let me know where is best to contact you (or feel free to just drop me an email to: melancholicmarionette@gmail.com)

Thanks again for supporting the game and I'm so sorry you've run into such a bizarre bug >.< Hope you have a great weekend!

I'm using the Windows full version and unsure if it's just something with my laptop but when I start the game I see the Unity symbol and then I'll see the loading hourglass icon on the bottom right for maybe a few seconds then the screen just goes dark and I hear music playing but no matter how long I wait nothing seems to come up I tried clicking around on the screen to see if perhaps it was just that I couldn't see it for whatever reason but I don't hear any buttons being pressed or any noises just the song playing.

(3 edits)

Hmm, that is a strange one >.< I know when I made the very first build of the game on the night of the jam deadline, I had that very same problem on my PC which made me panic like crazy, but I found it was caused by using a .ogv video file for the title screen. As soon as I swapped it out to a .mp4 version, the problem was fixed for me.  It also runs fine on my brother's PC and my old crappy laptop, but I don't have any other devices to test on.

I'm in the middle of trying to update the UI a little + eliminate unnecessary mouse clicks at the moment. I was hoping to have an updated version with those things in before going to sleep tonight, but it's looking more likely that I won't be able to get that completed and uploaded until tomorrow.

What I'll do is I'll let you know as soon as the updated version is available, then you can tell me if that works for you or not. If not, I could try making a separate build for you with a static image on the title screen instead of the video file, in case that's what's causing problems for some reason.

I'm sorry that it's done that for you though >.< Being a solo dev, I find bug fixing pretty hard when it's not an issue I can replicate on my end. But hopefully, I'll be able to fix this for you! I'll try my best to have the update out before I head to bed tomorrow.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure, but I may have made this an x86_64 windows build by accident. So that could potentially be causing problems too. This was my first time using Unity, so I didn't know much about how to export games at the time + was rushed due to the jam deadline. I'll make sure to make the updated build a regular x86 build.

Sounds good ^w^b I appreciate you getting back to me on this so quickly and if there's anything more I can do on my end to give you more info on what could be going wrong just let me know. I checked and my laptop is a 64bit Windows so that shouldn't be the problem.

Alrighty, good to know it's not 64bit causing issues then! I'm not sure what else could help, but removing the video file from the title screen will definitely be my first try at fixing it for you if the updated version still doesn't work for you. If neither of those things fix it, I'm probably gonna have to ask around to see if anyone else has any ideas because I'm not sure what the best thing to try next would be >.<

Just letting you know that the update is now out :3 If it still doesn't work for you, just let me know and I'll go ahead and make that version with the still image instead of the video on the title screen for you!

Unfortunately, though, it's coming up to 3am here now, so if the updated version doesn't work, I won't be able to get that other one made for you to try until I've gotten some sleep >.<

I downloaded the update but sadly only thing that changed was the cursor which I'm assuming was something that you changed with the update :/.

I tried messing with my graphics drivers and updating them in case it was something with that because I looked up common reasons why a game may give you a black screen but still play noise and stuff and most of it was saying that is probably the cause but still starts the same way, another post mentioned that the resolution I have could be the issue I've got 1366 x 768 and unfortunately I cant go any higher and I did see you said to fix text and stuff bleeding out of the textboxes to change resolution so maybe it's that?

In any case sorry for getting back to you late

Darn, that sucks! But, I've just uploaded a potential fix for you. I just named it after your username so you should see it in the available downloads :3 I did what I said I was gonna try - removing the video from the title screen completely and replacing it with a static image instead. I sure do hope that fixes it for you, or it's gonna take some real digging >.<

It shouldn't be your resolution that's the issue because the version I had up before the update was set to allow all resolutions. I only changed that in the update though cos as you said, it was messing with the UI if you changed it to anything aside from 16:9. But even with it being forced to 16:9, it still runs alright on my laptop which isn't 16:9. I can't remember what it is actually, but it's a weird one cos it's an old, rather odd little laptop, haha.

Fingers crossed the non-video title screen will work for you anyhow! Let me know how you get on :3 I'm heading to bed now though because I have an awful headache >.< If it still doesn't work for you, I'll see if I can find anything else to try tomorrow.
