UI + Quality of life update released! + Thank you everyone \^_^/

Alrighty, so it's certainly been a crazy few days, haha. DD had hardly any views/downloads since the jam ended at Christmas, but after Manly's video went up, that changed pretty quickly, haha. I just want to say a huuuuge thank you to everyone who has checked out the game! Your support really means a lot to me :3 Whether it be donations to help with further development, feedback to help improve the game, or just a few kind words in a comment, it all means the world to me and I can't thank you guys enough for everything. I'm super excited to continue creating this game. I really hope you'll enjoy hearing more from Castor/ia and all the other characters that are still to come further down the line :D

As for this update, it's not exactly the most exciting one in the world, but I've managed to create some much nicer-looking UI alongside tweaking the text box padding a little + other little tweaks and bug fixes here and there. With any luck, I didn't manage to break anything in the process, haha. I did set the resolution to 16:9 only because I think that's what was causing some of the text box issues. I'm going to have to look into how to make the UI properly scalable in order to support other resolutions.

Please note, the only versions I've updated are the full versions. I didn't update the safe versions since they were made just to fit the rules of the jam. As the game is updated, it will only be the full version that receives updates (unless anyone really happens to have a preference for the safe version, but that one will be missing a lot of content.)

Also, as always, I have no idea if the Mac or Linux versions work since I only have Windows available to test on. If you have issues with Mac, you can try some of the stuff in this post.

What's changed:

  • Almost all of the UI is now custom. It's still not finalised, but I think it looks better now. The player text box could do with being a little smaller though because it looks somewhat intrusive now >.< I'll fix that in the next update.
  • Many unnecessary mouse clicks have been removed for those clicking to advance rather than using the scroll wheel.
  • Text box padding has been tweaked, but it's still not 100% fixed. For the most part though, it shouldn't bleed out as badly.
  • Additional loading screens have been added so that the game doesn't appear to be frozen when transitioning to a new script.

What still needs tweaking:

  • The UI still needs to be played around with a bit more + completed.
  • The odd typo remains which needs fixing along with text padding.
  • Voice lines still playing when skip mode is being used (this is something I need to consult support on because I can't find an option to stop voice lines playing when using the software's voice map utility for voice acting.)

So that's it for this update! When the game is eventually complete, it will feature an extras section with things like a music box, but in the meantime, I'm going to see if I can upload a separate downloadable music box tomorrow for anyone who wants to listen to the current soundtrack :3

Thanks so much again for the support + I hope you have an awesome weekend!
